Kane is located in northwestern Pennsylvania on the Allegheny Plateau. It is a full service community, with an excellent hospital, schools, two supermarkets, high speed internet and a growing art and music scene. US Route 6 passes through the uptown business district at the intersection of State Route 66. It is unlike many communities that are located close to water in a valley or along a lake. Kane is at an elevation of about 2,000 feet above sea level and is high up on the plateau at the headwaters of several streams. The winters tend to be cold, with some days below zero degrees Fahrenheit, but the summers tend to be comfortable, with very few days over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Surrounded by hundreds of thousands of forested acres, the area is known for its natural beauty in all seasons. Kane is along the eastern side of the Allegheny National Forest, the only national forest in Pennsylvania, covering over 500,000 acres. The lake created by the Kinzua Dam is only about 10 miles north of town. Opportunities for outdoor recreation are limitless. Walking, biking, skiing, birding, fishing, hunting, boating, atv riding and snowmobiling are all right outside your door!
